Program Description
We want our children to become responsible members of society. We have a keen interest in developing a well-
integrated program that infiltrates all areas of the students’ lives while at school. Whether in class, on the playground,
or eating lunch, good character traits are emphasized and rewarded in various ways.

The character-building qualities we will be focusing on are; Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness,
Honesty/Trustworthiness and Citizenship. There will be one character-building trait per month. All the character
building traits will be centered on the Washington Elementary Eagles theme.

Students who receive 10 "Caught being Character Trait" tickets will receive a bracelet, certificate and name printed in
program at the monthly Character Education assemblies. Each student who is observed, demonstrating the particular
character trait for that month, will be given a ticket to be placed in a drawing for a free chance to win a bag of
popcorn, courtesy of our own PTO. There will be a class essay contest on the particular character trait of the month.
The teachers will then pick 3 to 4 of the best essays, which will then be turned in, where a special committee will pick
one essay per class that exemplifies that particular characteristic trait. The writer of that essay will receive a prize and
given a certificate in front of the other students at one of the assemblies. Also the winning studentsʼ essays will be
placed on the CHARACTER EDUCATION display board at school.

At the assemblies there will be plays. High school students known as the TEEN CONNECTIONS will perform the plays
at the first and last assemblies. For the other plays our very own students will be performing. This will be a very
special treat for all. Two actresses, Emily Calabrese and Sharla Boggs are co-founders of
SPOTLIGHT OVATIONS.
SPOTLIGHT OVATIONS will be directing our students in the plays that will be performed at the assemblies.
